The Sawatzky Cup

THANKS to highly respected WA sports journalist Glen Quartermain for leading his weekly column in the Sunday Times, Perth, with this great piece on the Sawatzky Cup - and the role it plays in increasing awareness about rare diseases and the work of Rare Voices Australia. Much appreciated Quarters!

Apologies to Shakespeare there but no doubt it was Laurence Pace's lucky day yesterday when ball #3 was drawn from the barrel - and that meant he was the lucky recipient of a Slinger Ball Machine and carton of balls worth $1700! THANKS to all who entered the draw and made donations to the Sawatzky Cup- Rare Voices Australia fund; I hope to be back with another draw bigger and better for the 2026 tournament.

Meanwhile Laurence (only half joking) now has his sights set on a maiden Wimbledon appearance once he hones his game with the help of the Slinger!

CONGRATULATIONS TO  Tim Lau of the Scarborough Scallywags team who is officially the 100th player to enter the Sawatzky Cup 2025 Grasscourt Classic, presented by Zarraffas Coffee Currambine Drive Thru!

Well done Tim - you will get a prize on the day, and there will also be prizes presented for the best men's and women's team names; and first paid-and-named men's and women's teams!

Plus, all women entrants go into a draw for one of multiple spa treatment packages.

GREAT BIG SHOUT OUT to Brett and the team at The First Serve website (part of the SEN network of radio stations across Australia) for a nice article (and a lot of love!) on the Sawatzky Cup! Maybe clubs/individuals out in the eastern states will be interested in bringing a Sawatzky Cup event to THEIR club! See the link below to the piece.

 The ten teams will battle it out in nine round robin matches; the top four teams will then contest the knock-out semifinals, with the winners of these going on to the Sawatzky Cup grand final.

Who will lift the trophy? We'll know on January 11 2025 (*I'd Hit That going for a three-peat!)

The auction of four signed sports jerseys, including a special Australian Olympic team issued top signed by Paris 2024 pole vault gold medallist Nina Kennedy, will CLOSE on December 11. All winning bids will be donated to Rare Voices Australia.
